5 Health Benefits of Avocados

Avocado, which is a single-seeded berry according to botanical classification, has the highest calorie content per gram of any food. Avocados offer a wealth of nutritional advantages that elevate them to the status of functional food, one that provides health benefits above and beyond basic nutrition. They are far from being empty calories.

1-Good for Eyes

Avocados contain the antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin, which filter out harmful light waves. People who regularly consume foods high in these antioxidants are less likely to be affected by age-related macular degeneration, the most common cause of blindness in older adults. The majority of an avocado’s antioxidants are found in the darker green flesh closest to the peel.

2-Help You Lose Weight

Almost 1/4 of your daily fiber requirements—or about 6 grams—are found in a half-cup of guacamole. Your likelihood of overeating decreases thanks to fiber. Although avocados contain a lot of fat, most of it is good monounsaturated fat. According to research, including this kind of fat in your diet can help you lose weight. Try chickpeas with mashed avocado as an alternative to chicken salad with mayonnaise.

3-Protect Your Heart

According to some research, increasing MUFAs—like those in avocados—while lowering saturated fats and carbohydrates may help maintain heart health. By lowering the “bad” cholesterol, also known as low-density lipoproteins (LDLs), this can reduce the risk of heart disease.

Researchers discovered heart-protective effects of avocado consumption in one study that was published in 2013 in Food & Function. The addition of half of one Hass avocado to a burger had the following effects in comparison to eating a burger without avocado:

4-Good For a healthy pregnancy

Good For a healthy pregnancy, folate—which is abundant in vocado—is crucial. A healthy avocado diet lowers the chance of miscarriage and abnormal neural tube development. As a pregnant woman, you should consume 600 micrograms (mcg) of folate daily, and one avocado has up to 160 mcg.
Avocados also contain fatty acids, which are necessary for a healthy diet and proper fetal development. The advantages of avocado for women’s health don’t stop there.

5-Good For Your Brain

The healthy unsaturated fats in avocados,  support the flexibility of the membranes in your brain cells. Avocados contain significant amounts of monounsaturated fatty acids.  fatty acids have been found to protect the astrocytes, which support the brain’s information-carrying nerves. In laboratory animals with impaired astrocyte function, monounsaturated fats improved the brain’s ability to control muscles. This study also looked at the benefits of fish oil, but they were not the same. Researchers found that some brain disorders that involve problems with astrocytes’ ability to use lipids may benefit from the use of monounsaturated fats.
